More info
The Health and Performance Corner Brook Triathlon will take place on Sunday, July 31st at the Sir Richard Squires Building. The event will begin at the Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Glynmill Inn Pond where athletes will complete 500 meter laps.
The number of laps will vary according to race. Athletes doing the Olympic Distance event will complete three laps while athletes doing the Sprint event will complete one lap of the pre-determined route.
The average water temperature of the pond is 18 - 20 degrees and thus all participants are required to wear a wetsuit.
There will be a total of 21 volunteers on-hand at the swim location, including five lifeguards (four in water and one on land). After the swim, athletes will proceed up the Glynmill Inn trail to the Transition Area in the Sir Richard Squires Building parking lot.
After leaving the Transition area, athletes head north on Mt. Bernard before turning left on to Herald Ave. Cyclists make a sharp right through the Fortis Building parking lot, then through the intersection to Griffin Drive.
The route will continue on Griffin Drive until the turnaround near Boland's Ave. At this point, athletes will head back towards the Transition area where they will complete their first lap. Athletes doing the full triathlon will complete four laps, and athletes doing the Sprint event will complete two laps. Police officers will be on hand at Lewin Parkway to guide traffic.
Additionally we will have approximately 20 volunteers on hand, including a mobile mechanic, mobile race official and course supervisors/marshals.
Upon finishing the bike portion of the Triathlon, athletes will exit the Transition area and head east on the paved O'Connell Dr. sidewalk. They will then proceed to the turn around at the Army building. Here athletes will head back the widely paved sidewalk across the walking bridge, and along the paved path towards the Sir Richard Squires Building - thus completing their first lap (2 km).
For half laps (completed as the last lap) athletes will turn around before crossing the bridge on O'Connell Dr.
Athletes doing the full triathlon will complete five laps, while athletes doing the Sprint event will complete 2 and ½ laps. There will be approximately 14 volunteers on hand for the Run portion of the event, including a medic station, water station and course supervisors.
